epicurean delight

Epicurus believed that the greatest good was to seek modest pleasures in order to attain ataraxia (a state of tranquility).

Chilli Hot Chocolate (one of life’s little pleasures)
4-6 servings


5 cups milk
1 vanilla bean
9 oz dark chocolate (min. 75% cocoa) (melted)
1/2 chilli pepper (de-seeded)
2 tablespoons Acacia honey
Small pinch of salt


  • Bring the milk to a simmer with the vanilla bean and infuse for 10 minutes. Remove the vanilla bean and slit lengthwise.
  • Scrape out the contents and stir into the melted chocolate.
  • Using a whisk, stir into the hot milk and whisk briskly until the chocolate has blended completely.
  • Chop the chili very finely. Stir into the drink with the honey and salt.

Serve hot!
